Hydrophobic Oleophobic Coating Drive Away Water and Oils

In recent years, Hydrophobic-Oleophobic Coating has proved a wise investment for various companies, municipalities, and corporations. Eco-friendly, permanent, waterproof nanocoating are designed to offer protection to various surfaces against water, oils, chemical corrosion and abrasion. “Phobia” is a greek word for fear.

Hydrophobic surfaces drive away water as if it were afraid of the water. These surfaces seal out water completely so that it does not come into contact with the surface directly and become the cause for any kind of rust and corrosion. On the other hand, oleophobic surfaces drive away oil as if it were afraid of the oil. Oil is repelled away by not being allowed to come into direct contact with the coated surface. Thus, we see that Hydrophobic-Oleophobic Coating serves the dual purpose of driving away water as well as other oil-based liquids for prolonged overall life span  of the material.

Water and Oil-repellent feature of high-performance protective nanocoatings make them an ideal and appropriate choice for a wide variety of industrial and commercial surfaces including automotive protection, wheel protection, industrial stencil applications, agriculture applications etc. There are two main advantages of hydrophobic and oleophobic coating in paint protection. It it has been tried and tested on various surfaces that good, high-performance nanocoatings are relatively easy to clean and maintain as compared to non-coated surfaces. It has been found that due to  hydrophobic-oleophobic properties of a nanocoating, even those products are easy to remove which are not so easy to clean from ordinary and non-coated surfaces.

Nanocoatings can be used to prevent graffiti. Every year, a huge amount of money is being spent on removing graffiti from public places, public and private buildings, train cars, walls etc. In fact, graffiti and vandalism have become the major cause of concern in different parts of the globe. But oleophobic surfaces have strong anti-chemical properties that does not even allow dried spray paints to stick to the surface. A strong layer of protective nanocoating over a conventional coat of paint provide strong anti-graffiti properties.

Initial testing of Hydrophobic-Oleophobic coatings are also being performed on automobiles to reduce the amount of road debris that sticks to automotive metals.
